Happy New Year – Metal Tiger – 8 Mountain year.. (9 Star Ki update)
Happy Chinese Solar New Year! Year of the Yang Metal Tiger and the 8 Mountain Star. The year begins with 2 Earth month and a 4 Wind day. May it bring you fulfillment, happiness, peace and joy.
8 Mountain Stars find themselves in the hub, the centre point and the house is relevant to new beginnings – as it finds you completing another cycle of nine years – the year is often full of opportunities and fluctuation, keep still, less movement than usual, allow things to happen around you and decide when you are in a strong position (2011) – look after your immune system and remember to take time out to relax while spinning about in the 5 T’ai Chi House.
3 Wood Stars are on Fire (9 House) this year, with a new clarity and illumination brought to the table. As the sun peaks, it shines on you, but everything around you too, so make sure you have cleared any unwanted debris. Fame and spotlight, a good year for self promotion and launching yourself up the career ladder. Be careful, and pace yourself however as your enthusiastic nature may get you carried away, so focus and finish things. You may also feel a little more sensitive during this time as the flames flicker.
4 Wood Stars in stark contrast to their rival sibling, find themselves in mid-winter, the dark static depths of midnight and the north. In a 1 Water house, it is like a seed, which remains dormant holding onto it’s strength, centering in preparation for the next phase of growth. Planning is a keyword for this year. Take care of any health issues as these may take longer to shake off than usual. As it is the beginning of the cycle don’t get frustrated if things don’t move along as quickly as you want. Take up a form of self-rejuvenating yoga, or Do-in. Concentrate on YOU! – and get your seed in tip top condition.
6 Metal Heaven (Father) Stars are pretty much on full force and effect being in the East and feeling the full effects of springtime. Lots of ideas, energy and a forward thinking attitude may help you to achieve loads during this time. Take care of your Liver and keep the drink to a level ground. This year is perfect for getting those plans into action and making your dreams a little more like reality.
The 7 Metal Star (Youngest daughters), are carrying on their upward progressive movement as the year 2010 brings a continuation of last year.. buzzing with energy it is important that you don’t bite off more than you can chew as your enthusiasm and fervor may find yourself spreading a bit thinly. Others may be in slower houses so slow down from time to time and check your sky!!
1 Water Stars are relaxing in the 7 Metal House, harvest and celebration time; a time for finally reaping the rewards of the previous few years. In the western horizon the lowering sun flickers onto the lake bringing with it a reflective quality, where you might think about where your journey has been to get to where you are now. You may find yourself being more sociable and outgoing, loquacious and less thrifty than previous years, so keep a reign on your budget.
All the Mothers – 2 Earth Stars, move into a house of stillness. A calm before the storm of the Fire house in 2011. It is often – being an earth house – a time of change and transition. The trigram is symbolic of a Mountain, which might find you retreating into your cave and being less sociable, more introverted. Try to be aware of this and don’t become too stubborn with people if they break the silence. Trudge steadily and form the pathway to the top to proudly stand upon next year.
5 T’ai Chi Stars occupy the 2 house of preparation. This year the soil becomes warm and invites you to delve inside in readiness for the growth stage of next year. Another transition time and again, it can be frustrating as you finally come out of winter-time. You may feel more family orientated and socially aware as you take on a more authoritative and humanistic viewpoint. Prepare yourself! – 2011 it all starts to happen!
9 Fire Stars (middle daughters) will be in the commanding FATHER 6 metal house in 2010. This house is often related to weath, prosperity and gaining rewards from your endeavors of previous years. A position of authority, you may feel more sure of your opinions. Metal relates to bones and large intestines so be careful not to stiffen up or suffer breakages. Remain flexible and try not to burden yourself with too much pressure mentally.
to find your star simply add all the digits from your year of birth i.e. 1+9+7+2=19 :. (reduce until under 11) 1+9=10 and subtract from 11 :. 11-10 = 1! (The year runs 4th Feb to the 3rd) so if your B-day is in before 4th Feb take previous year!)

I’ve just come across a book by Takeo Mori and Dragan Milenkovic entitled “Secrets of Japanese Astrology – The Science of Kigaku”.
Tightly written, roughly trimmed and all within 110 pages, it covers the basic elements and Trigrams, but also mixes this with the 12 branches. There are some interesting tables inside though; one that plots the years 1 to 90 of a persons life within 6 column headings of 1 – sowing, 2 – Taking root, 3 – Sprouting, 4 – flowering, 5 – maturing and 6 – vegetating to complete the cycle and the age of 7 returns to sowing.

So, what is Feng Shui apart from a mysterious and somewhat confusing term? To me, it’s mainly about our environment and its form, both internally and externally. By form, I mean the lie of the land, the surrounding buildings, and the furniture and shapes within our living spaces. Can I ask, have you ever visited a building or sat in a room, where you felt uncomfortable? Without completely putting your finger on it, something just didn’t feel right! Was it the color of the walls, the drab paintings maybe? Where you were sitting, did you feel exposed or unsupported? Were you surrounded by heaps of clutter that just made your head go on overload? I guess what I am trying to say is, how we shape our surroundings, place ourselves within them, their color and brightness ALL effect us in some way.
Feng Shui, translated literally as “Wind and Water”, is the appreciation that CHI or ‘life force’ ebbs and flows within all things, living and inanimate. Sometimes it moves quickly, other times it can become stagnant and stuck. Like Yin and Yang – the ultimate symbol of opposites – CHI can either be beneficial or harmful. We get CHI from the food we eat, the air that we breathe and the people we meet. Hence the quality and type of foods we eat, the freshness of the air we breathe and the attitudes and behavior of people we associate with, all have an impact on our own body and mind. Likewise, our built environment can alter how CHI behaves. For example if I lived in a cul-de-sac, which was hidden away within a large secluded estate, I may find that the CHI arriving at my house is slow and pensive, compared to that of a building situated along a busy main road.
To demystify Feng Shui, simply look at the way you behave in different situations. If I was to walk along a straight open pathway I may feel more inclined to run, jog or concentrate on the end which is in sight but still way ahead. Transpose this feeling onto a pathway which curves and is lined with features. I would be more inclined to meander rather than strut, coming across a surprise round the next bend, not totally focused on reaching the unseen exit. CHI reacts similar to this. Looking more at our own CHI, if I was to sit in line with a door, my back to the room and facing a wall, I’d feel very conscious of being exposed, unsupported and having a lack of perspective. Yet, if I was to sit with my back to a solid wall or high backed chair and facing into a room with open space in front of me and a good view of the door.
Imagine how CHI ‘flows’ within your home, does it get stuck when it enters the porch, where the pile of school bags, shoes, coats and three months’ of the advertiser sit? When you go upstairs, do you have to remember to avoid things cluttering the first four steps, which you meant to either take up or sort out weeks ago? Okay, so much of this is common sense, but for the sakes of an introduction you can hopefully see what I mean? Without going into mathematics, complex calculations and brain bending theories, if we simply look at creating a more open, uncluttered and supportive living or working space, both the mind and body have less to concern themselves’ about, and that must be a good thing!
